OGURYHTHM New York Bestseller Celebration and Sake Party
Mar. 14, 2016 at The Nippon Club in New York (2nd-floor Rose Room)
Representatives from the Consulate-General of Japan in New York, Japanese corporate employees assigned to New York locations (including members of the New York Doshisha Association), visitors from Japan as part of the Cool Japan project, and many others showed up in great numbers. Despite the rainy weather, more guests than the venue's maximum capacity of 160 joined the lively celebration. Following introductions to the 42nd G7 Summit in Mie Prefecture, Japan as well as an explanation of Cool Japan efforts, Sekai (Shigeo Oguri) performed a portion of the opera Pagliacci. Participants concluded the event with a 160-person choral performance of "Hana wa Saku" in remembrance of the victims of the 2011 Tohoku earthquakes and tsunamis.
